Wrapping up a conservative tour on the west coast, Varona returned to the studio, releasing their 2nd gem in 4 years, Egoist (2009). Varona's line up consists of electric and acoustic guitars, vocals, drums, percussion, saxes, clarinet, bass, and keys. Combining elements of John Zorn's avant garde arrangements, Gogol Bordello's charisma, and the international smatterings of Devotchka. Varona's tribal rhythms, melodic grooves, and angsty-yet strikingly beautiful lyrics are an energetic mash up of styles and cultures.
